Fifteen is still a lot!

Hi there, Reader,

I started Simple Pin Media in January of 2014.

In 2015, I started an email list. My friend Angela, a few team members, and some clients were on the list. We crushed it with seven people for a good 6 months.

I kept writing that email, a little sporadic, but with a goal in mind... just show them the value of what I know.

I listened to a podcast later that year that changed everything. The host and the woman being interviewed were lamenting the fact that it was hard to grow a list and when you only had 15 subscribers, the time investment felt hard.

Sitting at my closet desk, I realized I felt the same way. But what she said next changed my mindset completely.

She said, "You wouldn't ignore 15 people sitting in your living room, so why would you ignore the 15 people on your email list? Talk to them. Engage them. Learn from them".

That is perspective.

Then in 2016, I heard Joe Pulizzi say that you need to email people consistently. I chose Wednesday at 5 AM for my Pinterest Made Simple weekly newsletter.

And I've been writing every Wednesday since that time.

Now... here's the hard part.

How do you get people to sign up?

With GDPR and data collection and privacy changing SO much, it feels like the tech hoops, platforms, systems, and rules are more work than it's worth.


It's absolutely worth emailing your people and working to grow your list.


Because YOU are the owner. Not Instagram, Pinterest, Google, Facebook, TikTok, or any other 3rd party platform.

They are YOUR people. They have said YES to hearing from you. Learning from YOU.

And to those nay-sayers who say email is dead... jokes on them. It's not.
